Tech Camp for Technology in Humanities

You asked for it and here it is! A brand new tech camp for teachers! The class has been completely re-written with a new name, number and most importantly amazing new learning opportunities.

Campers new and old sign up quickly because space is very limited. The course was just approved and move quickly to get a spot!

Each participant will spend the week engaged with powerful Web 2.0 tools, 21st Century teaching strategies, multimedia, and curriculum resources to use with students.

This class will be different from past years, but there will be a few repeated projects. For example everyone will create one movie to be used in curriculum, but those that have the basic skills will be encouraged to go to the next level of sophistication. Meg serves as a coach, guide and facilitator as each participant creates what they need for a successful school year.

Each participant creates custom projects, so bring your ideas and we will turn them into reality! This is a hands-on week, tailored to individual needs. Class times will vary by location but plan on a full day starting about 8:30 and ending about 4:30. Three graduate credit hours from Aurora University will be offered for an additional fee, CPDU’s for other participants.

Here are a few comments from past participants:

· Meg was awesome! I am a beginner with technology and I learned so much from this class. There is stuff out there I did not even know existed. I am so excited now about really diving into technology with my classroom. Meg you are outstanding! Clearly!

  • The class was invaluable in motivating me to begin integrating technology into my reading & writing curriculum & gave me a plethora of ideas for how to achieve this goal.

· Meg gave me so much insight into new ways to incorporate technology into my classroom.

· Hands –on learning – we had time in class to do what she taught. Small group discussions & projects.

· Everything Meg demonstrated she had us try on our computers & then apply to our final projects.

· Active participation in creating files and a planning guide.

· Meg gave us time to explore. She was supportive and sensitive to our needs. She made it fun!

· Meg is terrific! She is so knowledgeable, creative, and helpful.

· I wish it could have been longer. I would have loved to keep going.

· The class was awesome – Don’t change a thing!

Tech Camp Dreams!

Well I did it, I made it through nine weeks of tech camp, and now that I have had a nap the past two afternoons, I can actually say I had a BLAST! I just logged into School Town to work on our Tech Camp Alumni Group and I found this message from Hal (Week 9 camper). I am STILL laughing!

It’s Sunday morning. I woke up about 6:00 a.m. and went back to sleep, and I had a dream. In the first part of the dream my mom and dad were going to a Sox game, but for some reason my dad left the lot with his car. I told him he couldn’t get back in but he parked in the lot for a bar.

I went into the bar. I don’t know what happened to my mom and dad, but suddenly I was with our tech camp group and a bunch of townspeople. You were showing our movie projects to them! Every one of them was brilliant, many of them using 3-D effects a la Second Life. I was dreading mine coming up but then I looked at the clock and it was almost noon, and the bar cleared because everybody left to watch a Bears game. I was relieved.

The reason I figured out the whole dream, though, was because you also had our graded plans with you…ON PAPER! The grades were marked at the top in red ink. That’s when I woke up.

Tech Camp Week 2

I am gearing up for week 2 of tech camp. This week I will be at the Lee/Ogle Regional Office of Education near Dixon Illinois. Last week was so amazing, really! The more I teach this class the more I am convinced that teachers need more time to create and really dig in and try new things. I know “we need more time is old”, but it is true. We need to rethink professional development to really focus on creating experiences where teachers have the time to create. I am looking forward to meeting my new group of campers and having another great week. Tech camp info here…..http://techteachers.com/?page_id=72
